No later comparable snapshot was published within the week.

On 1 September, the Bureau of National Statistics reported that petrol prices were 12.8% higher year on year in August and contributed 0.428 percentage points to annual inflation. Headline inflation was 9.8% year on year and 0.6% month on month. The index describes an average consumer basket; it is not a price list for a particular network or pump.

On 2 September, Kazinform examined who should pay for diagnostics on a warranty vehicle when fuel is suspected. The report refers to complaints and an ongoing check from refinery to filling station, but it does not publish a final laboratory finding for a specific batch. A complaint, a test purchase and a confirmed breach therefore remain distinct statuses.

A pump price versus a reported range
Kazinform's ranges show the lowest and highest sampled station prices, while OILCLUB identifies networks, standard grades and the snapshot date. Neither guarantees availability or an unchanged price after 31 August. Confirm the pump display before filling up, and treat Prime products, promotions and personal discounts separately.
What the 12.8 per cent increase means
The statistics bureau compares the petrol-price level in August 2026 with August 2025. This is the annual movement of an index component, not a claim that every grade and network raised its price by exactly 12.8%. The contribution of 0.428 percentage points describes petrol's part in headline annual inflation of 9.8%.
Separating a complaint from an established breach
A driver's complaint can trigger an inspection, but it does not by itself establish petrol composition, origin or compliance with a standard. A test purchase and sample collection are evidence-gathering stages. A final conclusion requires a published laboratory finding and a competent authority's decision identifying the batch or facility. Until then, a vehicle fault cannot automatically be attributed to a particular network; diagnostics and a documented causal link are needed.
