How do I know which petrol my car needs?
Check the fuel section in your handbook and the label inside the fuel flap. Take account of the engine, model year and market: requirements can differ even within the same model. Follow the minimum permitted and recommended octane ratings.

A higher octane rating means greater resistance to engine knock. Any benefit to power or fuel economy depends on the engine's design and tuning. Choose fuel according to the manufacturer's recommendations, not just the price at the pump.
How octane affects your engine · EIAWhy does a US handbook show different numbers?
US pumps usually display AKI, the average of the research and motor octane numbers. AI grades use the research method, RON. This means US 91 and a local AI-91 designation are not directly comparable.

Fuel grade and budget
