The full-to-full method
Fill the tank, then note the odometer reading. Drive as usual. At the next fill, fill the tank again under similar conditions and record both the litres added and the new odometer value.
If you add 38 litres after driving 480 km, estimated consumption is 38 ÷ 480 × 100 = 7.92 L/100 km. This measures the particular interval, not an annual or manufacturer-certified average.
What causes measurement errors
Automatic shut-off can trigger at slightly different fill levels. Vehicle slope, temperature, driving style and recording errors all affect results. Multiple consecutive measurements help reduce random variation.
Do not treat a partial fill as a complete full-to-full interval. If a receipt is missing, mark the affected interval as incomplete.
Estimate trip cost and usable range
Trip cost = distance ÷ 100 × fuel use × price per unit. At 8 L/100 km, a 600 km drive requires approximately 48 litres. At an illustrative 300 KZT/L that is 14,400 KZT, before traffic and extra detours.
An estimated remaining range is not a promise. Weather, load and road conditions matter, so keep a reserve when planning intercity travel.
Keep a consistent log
My Garage lets you record the date, odometer, litres, cost and full-tank status. Data is stored in your browser; export a JSON backup regularly if you want to keep it after clearing browser data.
To compare months fairly, consider both spending and distance travelled. Paying more in one month does not necessarily mean the vehicle has become less efficient.
